Gracie's First Bottle

Many people say that their children are the first thing they think about in the morning and the last thing they think about at night. For us, this is literally the case- as we always make a habit of calling St. Joe's to check on the girls right before we say our prayers and go to sleep and as soon as we get up in the morning.

Today we awoke to good news- Gracie drank her first full bottle at 6:00 a.m. this morning. With Hope's first bottle last Tuesday, both girls seem to be adjusting well to their status as "growers and feeders." Both girls are now taking two nipple feedings a day (either via bottle or breast feeding). One of the prerequisites of the girls coming home is for them to eat all of their food in this manner, so they are certainly well on their way.

Gracie and her mommy enjoy some quality snuggle time this afternoon.

Hope takes a snooze with her daddy after he burped her for the first time. You'd be surprised at the loud noises these little people make!

They are alot of work, but it is all worth it. As the girls get a bit bigger and more of their digestive system and organs become more mature things will get better. Our daughter was 6 2 at birth (must seem like a giant to yous)but her digestive system was pretty immature. Every time she ate she then would spit up everywhere. Then the cleaning and changing would begin. I don't think it lasted for months but it was there for a while. Also I remember many times with my son when he would have a blowout diaper and we would change and bathe him and as I was dressing him he would then pee on me and everything around him. Once the girls are home you will find your routine and schedule and what works best for you.
The books are great, but every baby does not follow a schedule to a book. Keep that in mind. My daughter because of the thrwing/spitting up would sleep at night in her car seat carrier. Sometime she slept better in the swing. Just keep this in mind becasuse I remember being a new mom and feeling stressed because I was doing things different then a book or what a family member/friend said. Guilt can get to you and add to the stress if things are different than what others would say. That is my biggest advice to you and Will. You may find a totally different approach that works for you and the babies and keeps you all sane.

I can't wait until I read the blog and it says "Hope and Grace are coming home"
You both are amazing parents!
